On or before January 1, 2013 the FCC is requiring all VHF (150-170 MHZ) and UHF (450-470 MHZ) licensees to implement equipment designed to operate using a designation of 12.5 kHz or less. If your equipment is not narrowband compliant you will be required to reprogram your radios and modify your FCC license. If you are operating without an FCC license you are required to obtain an FCC license.
There will be a minimal cost to modify your license. As January 1, 2013 approaches, your operation on wideband (25 kHz) equipment may become increasingly subject to interference from new adjacent channel narrowband systems that are implemented by other licensees in your area. To minimize this risk, you should consider making your narrowband transition as soon as possible.
